Neogene Era

25 MYA- 2 MYA

Neogene meaning ‘new born’ saw the emergence of a diversity of new species, many becoming the ancestors of the present. The evolution of grasslands favoured herbivorous, hoof like animals. Continents moved glass enough to allow land bridges and animals dispersed freely throughout the landscape. These conditions allowed animal behaviours such as herding and seasonal migration to occur. At the end of the Neogene Era an ice age took hold of the planet.
