The Cretaceous Era.... 142 - 65 million years ago

By the Cretaceous, the flowering plant, or the angiosperms evolved…. Flowering plants not only coloured the world but also provided a rich, varied food source to support the new diversity of species. Insects co- existed with them, creating symbiotic relationships that allowed plants to diversify and insects to flourish.

During the Cretaceous, mammals, though small in size, were diversifying, and increasing in numbers. A massive extinction occurred at the end of the Cretaceous era, the most common theory is that the planet earth was hit by numerous meteorites that caused darkness, toxic wastelands, dust storms and tidal waves, plunging the planet, yet not all life ceased at this moment. Mammals had the special evolutionary adaption to carry their young internally, increasing their survival rates.
