Focusing on the Animita, Ibanez captures the resting places of the dead. Not dissimilar to the sarcophagi of the Egyptians, the Animitas are homes for the souls of the departed. The Animitas are constructed from basic materials and are often adorned with offerings like flowers and gifts for the spirit. Each dwelling is prepared and maintained by the family and friends of the deceased. Set against the remarkable backdrop of the Chilean landscape, they are aesthetic marvels that defy scale. The humble, miniature dwellings are scattered throughout the landscape, sometimes in the most unusual places - as if all alone in the world. Newly Added in Print - Julika Lackner Band Series

We have just added a new series of art in print by TWFineArt's Julika Lackner. This series is a gorgeous abstract representation of the American landscape in locations like Yellowstone National Park. Like the impressionists, Lackner captures moments of light and color. What she sees around her is depicted in layers of horizontal bands that reference the horizons of landscape. Like layers of sediment, the bands pile on top of each other to create complex abstract visions of the environments around her. Visit Juilka's PORTFOLIO to view the full collection. NEW ADDITIONS: 9th St Show's 63rd Anniversary Special Release

In May of 1951 the 9th Street show opened to an overwhelming reception and introduced the world to the Abstract Expressionists. To celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the ground-breaking show, we have collaborated with the Estate of Michael Goldberg to bring you four limited edition Transfer works on newsprint from 1992. [divider] [caption id="attachment_7963" align="alignleft" width="447"]Transfer - Green, Michael Goldberg 1992 Transfer - Green, Michael Goldberg 1992[/caption] To remove wet paint from the surface of his artwork, Goldberg would apply newsprint to the surface and then scrape a large pallet knife over the newsprint to lift off excess paint. Doing this allowed him to work quickly without muddying the paint. This studio practice inspired a series of paintings where the markings on the newsprint became the focus of the work. By making deliberate movements with the pallet knife, Goldberg was able to create punchy gestural expressions of color that boldly capture a moment in time.
